Brown Institute for Brain Science
Undergraduate Teaching and Research Awards

The Brown Institute for Brain Science (BIBS) supports undergraduates to pursue brain science research during the summer. Undergraduates who have identified an interdisciplinary research project with a faculty member
affiliated with BIBS are invited to apply. Preference is given to students who engage in research projects in a laboratory outside their concentration or core discipline, for instance, a student in physical science, engineering, or computer science who works in a biology laboratory, or a basic science student who engages in a clinical research project. Summer research that will lead to an honors thesis is given priority. Women and minority students are encouraged to apply.

The Institute for Brain Science will support 4 undergraduate summer research awards. In addition, the Institute for Brain Science will support 1 semester-long teaching award, in which the awarded student will assist a faculty member who is developing an interdisciplinary course in brain science.

These awards are supported through the following funds:

· The Galkin Undergraduate Brain Science Research Awards, supported by the generosity of Warren Galkin ’51. This fund was established in 2006.

· The Thomas J. and Jennifer J. Pincince Undergraduate BrainScience Research Award, established in 2008 by Thomas J. Pincince ’86.
