Development of a Notch-3 Assay
We are looking for a student to set-up an assay to detect mutations in
a gene involved in a disease causing small artery strokes and vascular
dementia called CADASIL. This assay will be based on real-time PCR technology,
so candidates are expected to have had previous experience with PCR. Knowledge
of site-directed mutagenesis is a plus but is not required. There is will
also be possibility to work directly with families affected by the disease
if the student wishes to gain more clinical experience.
The ideal candidate should be a junior or senior, interested in pursuing
an independent study, which could lead to an honor's thesis. The experimental
part of the project will be conducted in the molecular Pathology laboratories
at Rhode Island Hospital and there will be a weekly research meeting and
clinical case conference at Butler Hospital.
If you are interested, please send your application and resume to Dr.
Salloway at Stephen_Salloway@brown.edu.
